For starters, Cinco de Mayo was our little Odette's first birthday! Our little birdie is getting so big. In honor of that we had a little party for her.
Yeah, we're pretty lame.
Tacos & virgin margaritas for us (recipe below) + an ENTIRE apple plate for her. She loves apples, she would eat them all day. Usually we give her one slice, chopped up. It's much more than she can even eat. For the occasion, though, we thought it would be fun to give her an entire plate and plop her into the middle.
She kind of lowered herself down into the center and then just went to town. She didn't know where to look or which one to eat, so she just kept rotating in circles, munching away. The virgin margaritas are more like a punch, and to be honest, I've never had real margaritas so I have no idea how these compare. They were really yummy though!
1 2 liter of lemon lime pop
1 can of five alive frozen juice (or a frozen limeaid and lemonaid)
8 cubes of crushed ice
1/4 c. kosher salt
Blend the ice in a blender and then combine in a punch bowl with the juice + pop. Cut the lime in half and juice one half into a shallow bowl or saucer. Pour the salt into another shallow or saucer. Roll the edges of your glasses into the lime juice and then roll them into the kosher salt. Ladle the mix into the glasses and garnish with a lime slice! They were really good... we drank the whole thing by ourselves.
We also had our group and individual pictures with my ballet studio. That was really great, except that two of the ladies from my class were missing. That broke my heart! I'll be sure to show you the pics when they're finished.
I stole this picture from my husband's friend's wife, Claire. Did you follow that connection? :) Claire said that this little baby squirrel was absolutely in love with her husband, Matt. The squirrel kept following him and climbing up his leg! Isn't it the cutest thing?! It's so precious. She also said that Matt's family used to rescue little squirrels and care for them until they could survive on their own. I'm guessing that this poor little guy could sense a kindred spirit in him. I hope he wasn't an orphaned squirrel!
I also managed to squeeze in a trip to Lamb's Gate (Lansing based antique + vintage store) with my friends, Brittani and Jamie. I got a fantastic stool for my DIY CRAFT TABLE. I can't wait to restore it for a future blog.
I also picked up a few yards of vintage fabric. I get fabric here a lot. Last week I made a skirt from some Lamb's Gate fabric. I'll probably use this cut to create a shirt as well as another skirt. I really like it. I have an adorable vintage bird fabric selection to use, too!
Check out these awesome retro block stamps they sell. They're starting to run low and I'm regretting my decision not to have gotten a few letters before that are no longer in stock. They had upper and lower case letters in baskets for the longest time. I love how industrial they are, the font is really awesome.
Be sure to hit your local antique store! You never know what you'll find. I hope you had an awesome weekend. I finally decided what to do for May. The giveaway will be a custom hair piece! I'm also giving away an extra entry to anyone who shares the LA VIE FACEBOOK page with their friends- so stop by! Have a great Monday and be sure to check in tomorrow! All the best, and as always, thanks for reading!
